Best Hyzer Flip Discs

No ratings yet.

This will give you a nice straight flight path once the disc turns. And getting a disc to fly straight can be a different task and the hyzer flip is a great way to achieve this. But what disc do you chose? If you aren’t sure which understable disc to use. What Is A Hyzer Flip?

The hyzer flip is one of the best ways to get an understable disc to fly in a straight line. To get the understable disc to flip you will need to release on a hyzer angle with a lot of snap.

When done right the disc should turn over and fly flat. When you get it done, it’s a great alternative to throwing a stable disc with a flat release.

What Makes A Great Hyzer Flip Disc?

You’ll want to use an understable disc when attempting a hyzer flip. If you are sure how to tell if a disc is understable, check the flight rating on the disc.

The turn rating is the 3rd number in rating and to be considered understable this under should be negative. A driver is preferred but it’s possible to hyzer flip a midrange or putter, it just takes more force.

Discs will less fade are also referred to a achieve a nice straight finish. The fade rating is the last number in the flight rating system and we are looking for a low number. 2 or less should work well.

When To Use The Hyzer Flip

The hyzer flip works great for low tunnel shots. It’s also great to use in the woods or to hit a specific gap in the fairway. The main thing to consider is the distance it takes the disc to flip to flat.

So, if you are staring down a tunnel or a gap in a group of tree you’ll need to make sure you have enough distance for the disc to hyzer to flat before it comes in contact with an obstacle like a tree.

Final Thoughts

I hope you’ve enjoyed this article on my top picks for hyzer flip discs. If you select a disc on this list, you’ll be sure to find success with the hyzer flip once you’ve perfected the technique.

If you don’t like the discs I’ve outlined, that’s okay. Just use my recommendations for an understable driver with low fade and you should be alright.

Now grab an understable driver and get to hyzer flipping!

Way back when they revolutionized the game with the first modern disc and helped make disc golf what it is today. But with some many great discs made by Innova should you pick? Best Innova Distance Driver

Best Innova Distance Drivers

Shryke – Speed: 13 Glide: 6 Turn: -2 Fade: 2

I like the Shryke for the best Innova distance driver. A lot of people might disagree with this selection and would rather see the Destroyer in this spot.

While the Destroyer is a great disc and did make the list, I like the Shryke in this spot as far more players can use it. This disc is very easy to throw and has massive amounts of glide.

Meaning, it’s going to stay in the air longer and fly farther without added power. This disc is a relatively straight flyer with dependable fade.

If you are a huge fan and looking for a go-to distance driver, try the Shryke.

What’s A Midrange Disc And What Are They Used For?

Midrange discs fall in between putters and drivers. They are usually characterized by their high-speed rating which for midrange discs are 4 and 5.

These discs are designed for distances outside the reach of a putter but are more controllable than a fairway driver. They work great for a lot of different shots.

You can use them for short drives or long approach shots. They shine with their high accuracy and work great for tunnel shots, hitting gaps and playing in the woods.

If you’ve just been using putters and drivers all along and have neglected to use a midrange disc you are missing out.

What Makes A Midrange Disc Great?

The two main characteristics I look for in midrange disc are reliability and versatility.

If I select a disc as my go-to midrange, I want to be able to trust it’s flight and also use it for varying situations.

I want to be able to release it flat and know it’s going to fly straight. The disc needs to be able to hold a hyzer or anhyzer line and fly true in the wind. All the discs I’ve outlined on the list match this criteria..

If you pick one of the midrange discs I’ve shown here, you’ll be able to both rely on it and use it for most situations.

Final Thoughts

Deciding on your main midrange disc can be tough. Especially with all the great discs that are on the market today.

I hope this article has made your decision a lot easy. If you select any midrange on this list, I promise you won’t be disappointed.

All these discs are excellent choices to fill that go-to midrange disc slot in your bag. Grab one now and take your midrange game to the next level.

What Does Understable Mean?

So, what does understable mean anyway? When we use the term unstable we’re referring to turn rating of the disc or the tendency of the disc to move left or right when it leaves your hand.

For an understable disc, if you are a right-handed player throwing backhand, the disc will tend to fly to the right after it leaves your hand. For lefties, it’s the opposite. The disc will tend to move to the left.

You might hear people refer to understable discs as flippy. This just means that the disc has a higher tendency to flip over.

What Can I Use These Discs For?

Understable putters are very versatile and can be used in a variety of situations. First off, they are ideal for newer players or players with slower arm speeds.

In the hands of one of these players, an understable putter will fly relatively straight. By comparison, if one of these players tried to throw an overstable disc the disc would likely hyzer out too earlier and not fly very far.

In the hands of a power player, an unstable putter will turn over with ease. This makes these discs ideal for turnover approach shots. Looking to turn your putter over and finish to the right, grab one of these discs.

Understable putters work great for short throws or approach shots where control is key. For instance, if you need to bend your putter around an obstacle and land near the basket, pick one of these discs.

Final Thoughts

If you don’t have an understable putter in your bag, you are really missing out. While they work fine for your go-to putter, they really shine when being thrown.

I like them for short drives and when approaching the basket. Understable putters are so controllable and would do well in any disc golfers bag.

Grab one today and take it out on the course. As soon as you throw one of these discs you’ll fall in love when them. They will have a permanent home in your bag.

Best Disc Golf Discs For Intermediate Players

No ratings yet.

I’ll tell you my top picks for these best disc golf discs for intermediate players but I’ll also go into some great alternatives.

Best Disc Golf Discs For Intermediate Players

Please note we’re supported by our readers. When you buy through our links we earn an affiliate commission. Thanks for your support!

Here are my top picks for the best disc golf discs for intermediate players:

  • Innova Krait
  • Dynamic Discs Felon
  • Discraft Buzzz OS
  • Discmania P2

Best Disc Golf Discs For Intermediate Players (Stable Distance Driver)

As an intermediate player, it’s time to step up your long-distance game. You may already have an understable distance driver in your bag.

Now that your arm speed has improved, you may notice these discs turning over more often for you.

Which is great for longer rollers and turn over shots but when you need a long straight flight or something with more control, you’re going to want to pick up a stable distance driver.

What Can You Use This Disc For?

Players can use a stable distance driver for a lot of things. The main role this type of disc can play in your bag is your go-to distance driver.

This is the disc you are most comfortable throwing long distances and the disc you’ll reach for most often off the tee.

Stable Distance Drivers also work great for archiving a long straight flight path. So if you are looking for a disc to fly a long way and mostly straight, you can’t go wrong with this type of disc.

For instance, if you find yourself staring down a long tunnel shot off the tee, there really is no better disc to grab from your bag.

Finally, you are going to want a Stabe Distance driver for its controllability. What I mean by this is, the disc will fly the way you throw it.

It’s basically as point and shoot as you can get in disc golf. If you put it on a hyzer, it’s going to ride the hyzer line.

And if you throw it on an anhyzer, it will ride the anhyzer angle out as well.

Innova Krait – Speed: 11 Glide: 5 Turn: -1 Fade: 2

Best Disc Golf Discs For Intermediate Players

My top pick for the best stable distance driver for an intermediate player is the Innova Krait.

Innova created a great stable driver with this disc. It’s a straight flyer with a high amount of glide.

You can describe the flight pattern of this disc as very straight with a touch of fade.

It works great for intermediate and advanced players alike.

So if you are looking for a solid point and shoot driver that will go right where you throw it, then consider the Krait.

Best Disc Golf Discs For Intermediate Players (Overstable Fairway Driver)

Now that your disc golf game has improved, its time to add some more fairway drivers to your bag.

While that understable fairway driver you got from that starter set is still great, you need more options.

It’s time to get a beefier fairway driver. That’s right, you’re going to need an overstable driver in your bag.

Now, I’m not saying you are going to need this disc on every drive or even on most drives but it’s going to come in handy a lot on the course.

What Can You Use This Disc For?

You can use an overstable fairway driver in a lot of different situations on the course. But the first kind of shot that comes to mind is for hyzer throws.

As a right-handed player, do really need your disc to finish left? Reach for this type of disc and it’s almost guaranteed.

To go along with that hyzer shot, another use for an overstable fairway disc a spike hyzer.

Another great time to pick up an overstable fairway driver, it when the wind picks up.

Need a disc that will fight the wind off the tee box, grab one of these discs. In high winds, discs tend to flight more unstable and turn more out of your hand.

A great way to combat this is to use an overstable disc.

Not only do overstable fairway discs excel at hyzer shots and on windy days, but they also work well for sidearm throwers.

So, if you are looking to throw a forehand drive selecting an overstable fairway driver is the way to go.

Why should you pick this type of disc? When throwing a disc with the sidearm technique, you usually put less spin on the disc than when throwing it with the bank hand technique.

The spin of the disc helps keep the disc in the air and flying on a stable path. To combat this loss of spin it is recommended to throw more overstable discs.

Lastly, this disc will excel at overhand drives. So, if you need to throw a tomahawk or thumber for any kind of distance, grab an overstable fairway driver.

Why does this type of disc work so well for overhand shots?

Drivers in this speed range work well because they take longer to complete the corkscrew flight rotate that a thumber throw has and they do it more predictably.

Because the disc stays longer in the air, more distance is archived.

Dynamic Discs Felon – Speed: 9 Glide: 3 Turn: 0.5 Fade: 4

Best Disc Golf Discs For Intermediate Players

My top pick for the best overstable fairway driver for an intermediate player is the Dynamic Discs Felon.

Dynamic Discs has really put out a great overstable fairway driver with the felon.

This disc will cut through the wind with ease. Trust me, you don’t have to worry about this thing turning over.

Throw this disc if you need something to finish hyzer.

It’s a great choice for side shots, forehands, flex shots and overhand drives. It does it all. Get a Felon for your bag now!

Best Disc Golf Discs For Intermediate Players (Overstable Midrange)

Having more options is a great way to improve your game. When deciding which throw to go with, having more choices is going to lead to a higher success rate.

As an intermediate player looking to add more discs to your bag, another great option is an overstable midrange disc.

Sure, you are still going to keep those midrange discs in your bag with lower stability but adding an overstable midrange disc is going to open up more shots and flight patterns at different distances.

What Can You Use This Disc For?

The ideal type of throw for this type of disc is a medium distance hyzer shot.

If you need your disc to finish left at a midrange distance, this is the perfect disc for that.

Another great throw to use an overstable midrange is a shorter distance spike hyzer.

If you need the disc to fly over an obstacle and lay right next to the basket without rolling away, pull one of these out of your bag.

You gotta trust me on this.

If you are looking for a midrange disc to perform well for you in the wind, an overstable one is great for this. You can really trust this disc in the wind.

If you throw it flight without any angle on it, it’s going to fight the wind and land where you need it to. No more skipping windy days with this bad boy.

I like this disc for forehands too. If I need a shorter distance flick, I’m going to reach for an overstable midrange disc to get the job done.

When I need the disc to finish right and skip up close to the basket at a close range, this is my go-to disc for that.

I like this disc for any intermediate player that throws a lot of short to midrange sidearm throws.

Believe me, overstable midrange discs do so well for forehand shots.

Discraft Buzzz OS – Speed: 5 Glide: 4 Turn: 0  Fade: 3

My top pick for the best overstable midrange for an intermediate player is the Discraft Buzzz OS.

We all know the popular midrange disc made by Discraft. The Buzzz OS is the more overstable version of the Buzzz.

If you enjoy the Buzzz but are looking for something more overstable, you’ll really like this disc.

You can trust it in the wind. You can be confident it will always hyzer out of you.

It’s a great option for throwing sidearm too. I can’t say enough good things about the Buzzz OS. Grab one now!

Throwing Putter

If you haven’t considered throwing a putter, you really should.

They are great for short drives and perfect for when you want the disc to land next to the basket and not skip away.

And as an intermediate disc golf player, you will need to learn the art of throwing a putter.

It’s really one of the best ways to achieve a slow-flying straight shot in disc golf. It’s also a lot of fun.

Trust me, if you are looking to expand your disc selection you are going to want to add at least one throwing putter to your bag.

What Can You Use This Disc For?

You should really try using a putter off the tee.

If you need a disc for a short drive, especially if it’s a rather straight shot, you really need to grab this disc for your bag.

Putters work great for driving on shorter disc golf holes.

Of course, this depends on the player, but a hole that is 250 feet or shorter could be considered a good option for using a putter.

Some more great options for your throwing putter are approach shots.

If you want a controllable disc that won’t skip away from the basket, use this disc.

Carry a separate disc for this will also ensure that your main putter won’t get any unnecessary scratches or dings in it.

You want that softer putter plastic to hold up and keep a straight flight.

So use a throwing putter for those upshots instead and keep your main putter in your bag longer.

Discmania P2 – Speed: 2 Glide: 3 Turn: 0 Fade: 1

My top pick for the best Best Throwing Putter for an intermediate player is the Discmania P2.

This Discmania putter has a nice straight flight and is quite stable.

It can handle the power you’ll put on it off the tee and will stay on course in the wind.

Discmania says they designed this putter for professional disc golfers specifically but it works great for recreational players too.

Pick up a P2 and try throwing it right away.

Out on the disc golf courses, it’s easy to get to into some difficult situations. Sometimes you’ll have a big obstacle in your way that’s blocking your normal disc golf throwing style. Other times you may need a very accurate shot and your go-to throw may not be the best option. In both these cases, the tomahawk throw can get you there but what disc do you use? In this article I’m going to go over my top picks for the best disc golf discs for tomahawk throws. Best Disc Golf Discs For Tomahawk Throws (Aerobie Epic – Speed: 11 Glide: 3 Turn: -2  Fade: 4)

Best Disc Golf Discs For Tomahawk Throws

The Epic is an excellent choice for a tomahawk disc.

It is specifically designed to extend the distance of you tomahawk drives. The rim of the disc is more narrow on one side and winder on the other.

The flight rating of this disc is a little misleading as it requires you to bend the disc before throwing it.

The disc has it’s quirks and may not work for all players but I suggested you grab on and give it a try.

See for yourself if the Aerobie Epic is right for you.

What Is The Tomahawk?

The tomahawk is an overhand disc golf throw. The motion is similar to throwing a baseball overhanded.

When throwing a tomahawk most players use the same grip as they do for their forehand drivers.

The disc is held vertically with the flight plate facing toward the thrower. This is the opposite to the other overhand throw, which is called the thumber.

For this throw the flight plate faces away from the throwing with the player’s thumb on the rim.

When Should I Use A Tomahawk Throw?

There are several reason to use a tomahawk throw.

One is for its accuracy. If you are in a situation that you need to pinpoint where the disc should land, using the tomahawk throw can get you there.

If the ground is level, you can drop a disc very accuracy with a tomahawk.

Another situation would be if you need to throw over an obstacle. The tomahawk allows you to throw the disc in arching flight path which is great for throwing over stuff.

This is a great shot to perfect for scrambling and getting out of trouble on the course.

Tomahawks can also be used for their finish.

If you are a right-handed player the disc will corkscrew in the air moving right to left. For Lefties, the flight path will be reversed.

For sidearm dominate players, the tomahawk is a great option when you need the disc to finish the other way. Plus, the grip used for both shots can be the same.

What Makes A Great Tomahawk Disc?

For distance, the ideal tomahawk disc is a fairway driver that’s overstable.

Lower speed overstable distance drivers can also be used for distance too.

Drivers in this speed range work well because they take longer to complete the corkscrew flight rotate that a tomahawk throw has and they do it more predictably.

Because the disc stays longer in the air, more distance is archived.

What About Using An Understable Disc?

Understable discs in the fairway to lower distance driver speed range can also be useful for tomahawks.

These discs will have a tighter barrel roll in the air, have less right to left movement and get to the ground quicker.

This works well for smaller gaps, in the woods and if you just need to get over an obstacle and back on the ground fast.

Final Thoughts

Learning the tomahawk can be great for you disc golf game. It’s a great utility shot to have in your bag of disc golf tricks.

Whether you are going for a highly accurate placed shot in the fairway or you need to get over a big tree.

If you use the right disc, a tomahawk can get you there.

Grabbing one of the Best Disc Golf Discs For Tomahawk Throws I’ve listed here will get you a more predictable flight path and a tomahawk that will fly farther.

Give one of these Best Disc Golf Discs For Tomahawk Throws a try and you won’t be sorry. Happy Tomahawking!

My Assumptions About Beginners

When I made this list for beginning disc golf players, I made some assumptions about them.

I assumed that beginners have a slower arm speed than the average disc golf player. I made the assumption that beginners are looking for more distance out of their throws.

So if you are using this list to decide on which Innova discs to go with, keep these assumptions in mind.

What Makes A Good Beginner Disc?

When making this list I was looking for discs that were understable and had a good amount of glide.

This is important because newer players tend to have a slower arm speed and with this slower arm speed will get more distance out of an understable disc.

The reason glide is important is because the higher the glide the longer the disc tends to stay in the air.

Discs with high glide will remain in the air longer and tend to fly further.

My Thoughts On Disc Weight For Beginners

For beginners, I would recommend a lighter weight for drivers and mid-range discs, especially when it comes to women and younger players.

New disc golfers will be able to pick up a lower weight disc and throw it farther with less effort.

Some exceptions to this recommendation might be more athletic individuals and people you have a lot of experience in a throwing sport, like baseball.

For discs, the range of 180g – 169g is considered max weight and beginners would definitely want to stay away from these weights.

New players might want to start at 160g or lower and for younger players 150 or lower.

Final Thoughts

I hope you’ll consider my Best Disc Golf Discs For Beginners selections when trying to pick out your first disc golf discs.

For your throwers you are looking for discs that are understable and have a lot of glide.

For you putter, the understable requirement is less important because you are closer to the basket but the extra glide can help you get there.

If you are a new player to disc golf, you can be confident with any disc I’ve picked for this Best Disc Golf Discs For Beginners list.

Once you get your discs, you’ll be able to try out a great sport. Happy disc golfing!

What Does Understable Mean?

When we use the word understable we’re referring to turn rating of the disc or the tendency of the disc to move left or right when it leaves a player’s hand.

If you reference the flight rating system or the 4 digit number system written on most discs, the turn rating in the third number in the sequence.

Discs with a negative number are generally considered to be understable. The lower the number, the more understable the disc.

For an understable disc, if you are a right handed player throwing backhand, the disc will fly to the right after it leaves your hand.

You hear people refer to understable discs as flippy. This just means that the disc has a higher tendency to turn over.

What Can I Use These Discs For?

Understable distance drivers are very versatile and can be used in a variety of situations.

First off, they are ideal for newer players or players with slower arm speeds. In the hands of one of these players, an understable distance driver will fly relatively straight.

If these same players were given stable or overstable discs, these discs would likely hyzer to earlier and not get much distance.

In the hands of a power player, an unstable distance driver will turn over with ease. This makes these drivers Ideal for turnover shots.

Looking to turn your disc over and finish right, grab one of these discs and put some heat on it.

Because these discs are easy to turnover means they make great rollers. If you put some anhyzer on one of these discs and get the angle just right, they should roll well for you.

Just when you thought there couldn’t be more than these discs can do, they also make great hyzer flip discs. If you release these dics with a ton of over on a hyzer angle that should flip to flat with ease. Watch them fly straight for days.

Final Thoughts

If you don’t have an understable distance driver in your bag, you are really missing out. If you are a newer player, these discs will work great for your first distance driver.

When thrown flat at a lower speed, they should produce a relativity straight flight path.

For more advanced players, these discs can be used for turnover shots and are ideal for hyzer flips. If you are looking for a new roller disc you can use in the distance, well the discs I’ve mentioned work great for that too.

I hope you’ll pick one of these discs right now. Trust me. You won’t be disappointed.
