Remix Disc Golf’s Secret Source – MVP Disc Sports

No ratings yet.

In this video, Bodanza disc golf reveals the secret source of where Remix Disc Golf discs come from. He proves that Remix Discs are manufactured by MVP Disc Sports located in Marlette Michigan, but it’s as if they are trying to hide this fact. Bodanza goes over different theories of why MVP’s secret brand exists. As an Amazon seller, Bodanza knows that after all the fees, MVP isn’t really making any money by selling these discs.

He has a few different theories.

Theory 1: MVP owns all of the disc golf molds that are used by Thought Space Athletics and Mint Discs but they overproduced and them and so need some kind of outlet in which to liquidate surplus inventory. Thus the discs are the same molds, just rebranded. IE.

*Note we don’t know if these discs are actually the same molds, we are just speculating that they could be based on similar flight numbers.

Theory 2: The Remix Discs were disc golf molds that weren’t good enough for MVP, Streamline, Mint or TSA. Rather than just scrap them, they resell some slight variants of the molds on Amazon.

Regardless of the truth of why MVP has a hidden disc golf brand called Remix, you cannot beat the price of Remix discs, especially with the free shipping. While some of them have been sold on Amazon for years, Remix discs were just PDGA approved on March 27th, 2023. Now that they are PDGA approved, there is no excuse to not try these cheap but quality disc golf discs.

Thought Space Athletics Mantra

Thoughtspace Athletics Mantra Driver 5/5 (1)

The Thought Space Athletics Mantra is the first disc released by the Thought Space Athletics brand. The Mantra is an understable distance driver. It is described as the perfect disc to help new disc golfers get more distance. Experienced disc golfers will find that the Mantra is good for long anhyzer shots that need to hold an anhyzer line for a very long time. This is also a disc good for rollers. Thought Space arguably has the best feeling plastic in disc golf and their triple foil disc stamp designs cannot be matched. Initial Flight ratings for the Mantra are 10/5/-3/1

Franklin Sparrow

Franklin Sparrow Midrange No ratings yet.

The RT Franklin Sparrow is the plastic shape listed as a mid-range in the Franklin Sports Disc Golf beginner set. This disc is made of a soft, very un-durable plastic type that is quick to wear and easily bends. Although it is listed as a mid-range, the disc mold used is exactly the same as the Albatross (which is listed as a driver). Regardless of what this disc is listed as, it does not fly well, but the aerodynamics of the disc make it too understable to throw as it immediately flips sideways, falls out on the ground, and begins to roll. The Sparrow could be listed as a roller disc if it was possible to control, but it’s very hard to make this disc roll straight as it usually likes to turn right and curl in a circle.

Because this disc is so understable, it is not recommended for any disc golfers above the age of six years old. Franklin Disc Golf Sparrow

Franklin Albatross

Franklin Albatross Disc Golf Driver 1/5 (1)

The RT Franklin Albatross is a piece of plastic advertised as a disc golf disc. Although it is shaped in a way similar to a disc golf driver, the aerodynamics of this “disc” do not allow it to actually fly in the air. The Albatross is so understable that on even moderate speed shots from inexperienced players, this disc will turn sideways, head to the ground, and start rolling. While this disc is printed as 160grams, the actual weight may actually vary. The Albatross is likely the most understable driver ever made and is only recommended for use as a disc golf discs for children 6 years old and under.

While the Franklin Albatross is advertised as a “driver” it has the exact same dimensions and flight as the Sparrow as well as the Halex Driver and the Halex Midrange. Franklin Disc Golf Discs are made in China. Bottom side of Franklin Albatross Disc

Franklin Night Owl

Franklin Night Owl Putter 2/5 (1)

The Franklin RT Night Owl is an inexpensive thin putter in a soft plastic blend. This is a decent enough flying putter discs for beginners and works for short putts as well as approach shots and drives. The plastic easily bends, but can usually be bent back to the original shape. Of all the Franklin Golf Discs, the Night Owl is the best of them. The Franklin Night Owl is not PDGA approved for tournament play.Night owl bottom

ESP Emsco Sports Putter

ESP Maximum Control Putter 2/5 (1)

The Emsco Sports Products (ESP) Putter is similar to the other PDGA approved discs in the ESP line in that it is a tall very domey disc available in a hard stiff plastic. The total height of this putter is nearly 3cm tall!According to ESP, this is a maximum control putter.

The ESP putter has an understable flight path. While ESP discs were approved in 2012, the stiffness of the discs currently available in Walmart beginner sets are too hard and would not pass the current PDGA flexibility requirements.

ESP Emsco Sports Midrange

Emsco Sports Midrange Golf Disc 1/5 (1)

The ESP Emsco Sports Products Middrange Accurate Approaches Discs is a tall, utlra domey golf disc that is very similar to the ESP sports driver. This disc is available in an ultra hard and stiff plastic. The ESP Midrange is supposedly PDGA approved, but the plastic stiffness would certainly not pass the PDGA flexibility test.

The ESP Midrange has a very understable flight path that turns over easily, especially when thrown with power or into a headwind.

ESP EMSCO Sports Distance Driver

ESP Emsco Sports Products Driver 1/5 (1)

The ESP Sports Maximum Distance Driver is a tall, domey, ultra hard plastic disc with a thin rim wing. This disc brand should not be confused with Discraft’s ESP plastic, as they are not even remotely close. The ESP driver is very understable and does not fly well in the wind. ESP Sports received PDGA approval for their discs in 2012, but the current discs available in the 3 discs beginner set are much two hard and stiff to ever pass PDGA flexibility requirements.

According to the box on the beginner sets, EMSCO Sports golf discs are made in the USA.
